March to celebrate Qld's diversity

Queenslanders will take to the streets in Brisbane to celebrate the Sunshine State's diversity, and let refugees know they are welcome.

The Walk Together march on Saturday will coincide with several marches across the country which are being held to send a message to politicians that all people are equal.

"It's basically to get together and celebrate our diversity," Brisbane co-ordinator Fahim Khondaker told AAP.

"Our focus is on what we can do being here in Australia to cultivate a culture of welcome (towards refugees and asylum seekers) and that mutual respect and how we can all benefit in our diversity."

The Brisbane march, which begins at Kurilpa Park and ends at the Supreme Court Plaza, comes days after Queensland's premier revealed the state would provide homes for another 3500 refugees from Syria and Iraq.
