A man has been charged over an alleged drink-driving incident that claimed the life of a nine-year-old boy on Christmas night.

Josiah Sisson was looking at Christmas lights with his family in Springwood, south of Brisbane, on Sunday when the driver of a vehicle failed to negotiate a turn and hit a parked car before running him over.

Josiah was taken to Brisbane's Lady Cilento Children's Hospital but died on Tuesday after his family chose to take him off life support.

Adrian Murray, 24, was charged over the incident on Thursday.

He faces one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence.

He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 14.

Murray had previously been questioned by detectives but released.

Speaking on behalf of Josiah's family on Tuesday, pastor Peter Field said the Sissons believed in forgiveness.

"He was a great little boy and he's going to be missed very much," he said.

Josiah is being remembered as an incredibly happy-go-lucky boy.
