Man weeps in dock over attack on neighbour

A Gold Coast man remains on life support after a violent brawl with a neighbour earlier this week, a court has been told.

Nathan Sanchez, 23, faced Southport Magistrates Court on Friday charged with grievous bodily harm after a fight with neighbour Kane Barry on Tuesday.

Sanchez wept in the dock, shaking and holding his head in his hands as his matter was adjourned for a second time this week.

Police prosecutors told the court Mr Barry's condition was still life-threatening. Doctors had unsuccessfully attempted to wake him from a coma and he was unable to breathe unaided.

Sanchez's matter has been adjourned until next Monday, with police saying they could upgrade his charges if Mr Barry doesn't recover.

The pair allegedly fought outside their unit complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Media reports say police believe Mr Barry had been choked and had his head repeatedly bashed on the pavement.

Sanchez's lawyer Colin Greatorix agreed to the matter being further delayed due to Mr Barry's medical situation and said his client had been made aware of the consequences if he doesn't recover.

"I've informed my young client of the gravity of the situation he finds himself in," Mr Greatorix told the court.
