Body found at Qld house fire

A body has been found at a home levelled by fire in central Queensland.

Authorities had been searching for a man's remains after the house near Mackay went up in flames on Thursday night.

Police confirmed a body had been found in the debris on Friday morning.

Officers are currently at the site and expect to stay there for a number of days as they try to figure out what sparked the blaze.

They will also attempt to confirm the identity of the deceased person.

The search had been hampered by the precarious condition of the home, which was threatening to collapse.

Neigbours also described seeing plumes of dark smoke rising from the property after a loud explosion.

"It was quite a large explosion," Andrew Schembri told the ABC.

"I went outside and all I could see was black smoke billowing out from the side of the hill."

It's understood the man lived alone.
