Man in court over Brisbane murder attempt

A man accused of dousing a Brisbane drug figure in fuel and setting him alight has had his matter briefly mentioned in court.

David Charles Edgerley, 34, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting Victor William Graveson, 65, alight while he slept at his Alexandra Hills home on Friday morning.

Mr Graveson ran out of the house in flames before relatives came to his aid and put out the fire.

He suffered head-to-toe burns and remains in a critical condition at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hosptial.

"Victor was lying inside my brother's verandah all burnt, right through. There wasn't a bit of skin left on him," a cousin told AAP on Friday.

Edgerley, of Kooralbyn, south of Brisbane, did not appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court when his matter was briefly mentioned on Saturday.

No application for bail was made and the case was adjourned to the same court on Monday.

Mr Graveson has a lengthy criminal history, having been jailed for 10 years in 1996 for his role in the sale of a cannabis crop worth almost $2 million.

He was jailed again in 2008 for drug possession offences.
