Police say a drowning at a Gold Coast apartment block is not related to schoolies week celebrations.

A man, believed to be aged in his late 20s, was pulled from a pool at a property on Orchid Ave, Surfers Paradise, on Wednesday evening, and had CPR performed on him.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives will interview the man's companions, Inspector John Hallum said.

"They left him in the pool and went back to the unit, and came back a short time later and found him at the bottom of the pool," he told ABC Radio on Thursday.

A doctor and advanced care paramedics were treating the man within two minutes of a triple zero call, the Queensland Ambulance Service said.

Police say the incident is not suspicious.
