A man who died after crashing his car into a power pole in Brisbane had earlier failed to stop for police.

It's alleged the man's hatchback accelerated away when officers tried to intercept it on Murphy Road at Geebung about 2.40am on Saturday.

Soon after, the car hit a power pole on Handford Road in nearby Taigum.
