A Victorian man charged with defacing a Queensland mosque might also have been behind arson attacks on the site, police say.

The 26-year-old man was charged on Monday with spraying graffiti on the outside of the Toowoomba mosque on May 26.

It comes after the religious hub suffered blazes in January and April, both deemed suspicious by police.

Investigators say there's no evidence at this stage the Victorian man was also involved in these arson attacks, believed to be the handiwork of a single offender.

But it hasn't been ruled out, Detective Inspector Dave Isherwood told AAP.

"He may not be involved (but) there's a lot of coincidences," he said.

Det Insp Isherwood said the investigation was continuing and police were working on developing a background profile for possible suspects.

The Victorian man is due to face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday on a wilful damage charge.
