Man charged with assaulting police

Two police officers say they have been assaulted by a 20-year-old man at Lockhart River in Far North Queensland.

The police allege they attended a disturbance and the man repeatedly punched the 49-year-old male officer in the face.

A 22-year-old female officer then intervened, before the suspect fled the scene.

He was later charged with two counts of assaulting police.
