Man charged after Gold Coast stand-off

A man who reportedly wielded an axe and threatened to set off explosives during a police stand-off at a Gold Coast home has been charged.

Police were called to an Upper Coomera home around 12.20pm on Sunday after reports of a disturbance, and negotiated with a man inside the property.

It's alleged the man had made threats, with media reports saying he smashed up the house with an axe and threatened to blow it up.

The emergency situation was called off at 7.05pm after a man was taken into custody.

A 27-year-old Upper Coomera man has been charged with one count each of going armed as to cause fear, serious assault police causing bodily harm, wilful damage and possession of explosives.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
