Man charged after Cairns mattock incident

A man involved in a standoff with Cairns police while allegedly threatening them with a mattock will face court on Tuesday.

Another man who became aggressive to police during negotiations with the 29-year-old has also been charged with obstructing police.

The standoff ended four and a half hours after it started at 6pm, when police were called to the Earlville home following reports of a man in the front yard of a home armed with a mattock.
