Fast food search led to Qld house crash

A Hong Kong man who drove his out-of-control car through the side of a Brisbane house and onto a sleeping woman had been looking for a Hungry Jacks restaurant, a court has heard.

The series of driving errors that led to Shing Chi Woo's car ending up in the bedroom of the Sunnybank Hills home one morning in March last year was detailed at his court sentence on Tuesday.

The Brisbane District Court heard Woo had been using his GPS to find a Hungry Jacks when he looked up to see an unidentified small animal ahead.

Swerving to avoid the creature, the 31-year-old took his eyes off the road to reach for some food containers under his legs and hit the gutter.

He then tried to brake but in a panic hit the accelerator instead and ploughed through a fence and into the house.

A 37-year-old woman sleeping on the floor was pinned beneath the car until emergency workers could raise the vehicle.

She spent 10 days in hospital with a fractured spine and pelvis, while her husband - who had been lying on the bed - suffered cuts to his legs and arms.

The insurance bill to repair the damaged house was $46,000.

Judge Tony Moynihan accepted the reckless driving was an aberration in Woo's previously unblemished record and gave him a nine-month suspended sentence.

"It's incredible that people were not more seriously injured," the judge said.

Woo, an aspiring mechanic who moved to Australia two-and-a-half years ago, has also been disqualified from driving for three years.
