Magistrate slams DNA delay in murder case

A Queensland magistrate has slammed prosecutors for taking too long to provide key evidence to lawyers of the three men charged with the murder of a missing father.

Aaron Crawford, Lionel Patea and Liam Bliss are all in custody after being charged last year with the murder of 36-year-old Greg Dufty.

The father-of-two hasn't been seen since he went missing on the Gold Coast in July last year.

His body hasn't been found.

Prosecutors applied for a two-month extension at Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday to provide DNA evidence to the trio's legal teams.

But Magistrate Chris Callaghan denied the request, deeming a five-month wait for DNA results to be "unacceptable", particularly with the accused in custody.

"Does it take five months to do DNA these days? That's ridiculous," Mr Callaghan told the court.

Mr Callaghan adjourned the matter until February 25, by which time the DNA results have to be provided.

"The matter will proceed whether you've got the DNA or not," he said.
