A Macleay Island woman has fronted court charged with the stabbing murder of her partner.

Renee Helen Blockey, 41, did not enter a plea when she appeared in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon shortly after being charged with the fatal stabbing of John Windle, also 41, on Monday.

Blockey was remanded in custody and ordered to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 4.

It's believed Mr Windle suffered multiple stab wounds in the midday attack at their High Central Rd property on the Queensland island, with witnesses saying the pair was seen arguing in the street before the killing.

"Certainly a horrific set of circumstances leading to his unfortunate death," police told reporters.

Mr Windle's aunt, Eunice Mines, lives across the road from the crime scene and lamented a "waste of a life, a good life".
