Loaded gun found inside car after dramatic police chase

The man who led police on a chase through the Gold Coast yesterday will face court charged with eight offenses.

The 21-year-old will front a magistrate at Southport Court this morning following yesterday's pursuit. The charges include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and armed robbery.

Police will allege the man went to the home of a woman he knew in Pacific Pines armed with a weapon.

After being told to leave by a neighbour, the man allegedly stole the woman's car and led police on the pursuit through the suburb.

After damaging the vehicle, the man then allegedly carjacked a woman at Oxenford.

Now behind the wheel of a gold Toyota Camry, the suspect avoided road spikes deployed by police by veering onto the wrong side of the road.

He was eventually stopped by authorities after police deployed a second set of spikes.

“They were successful at deflating the tyres at the causeway in Upper Coomera,” Queensland police’s Brett MacGibbon told 9NEWS.

“The vehicle continued for another few kilometres where it was blocked in.”

The man was then arrested and police allegedly found a loaded gun in the vehicle.

The whole incident lasted more than an hour, with police thankful no one was physically hurt.

Authorities said the driver of the carjacked vehicle was distraught and support for her was being arranged.
