LNP should 'consider defection rules'

Queensland's Liberal National Party should consider bringing in defection rules after former federal minister Ian MacFarlane's failed bid to join the Nationals, State Leader Lawrence Springborg says.

Mr Springborg says his state-based party has never had to deal with its federal politicians trying to switch partyrooms in Canberra before - but may need to again in the future.

"We need to consider what happens when people may wish to change allegiances. And that of course requires consideration in the rules or the constitution," he said.
