Commonwealth Games delay claims rejected

Queensland's Commonwealth Games minister has rejected suggestions construction could be delayed for the 2018 Gold Coast event due to rolling work stoppages.

Stirling Hinchliffe says construction timelines for venues are still on track.

"All the venues are going well," Mr Hinchliffe said on Monday.

"No concerns have been raised with me about the timeliness of those projects."

Mr Hinchliffe said the projects were also on budget.

His reassurances come after his opposition counterpart, John-Paul Langbroek, said unions taking industrial action at the Carrara Sports Precinct - the centrepiece games venue - over an enterprise bargaining agreement dispute needed to be pulled into line.

"If these disruptions were to continue, then there would be a question over whether the Commonwealth Games precinct will be finished on time," Mr Langbroek said.

"It's a gold medal-winning performance by the unions when they're making these ambit claims, but it's Queensland's taxpayers who have been held to ransom."
