Last PUP MP in Qld quits the party

The Palmer United Party's last remaining state MP in Queensland, Carl Judge, has quit the party.

The member for Yeerongpilly follows fellow LNP defector Alex Douglas, who left PUP in August to become an independent.

Mr Judge says he can better serve his electorate as an independent and plans to contest the next state election.

However, he denies having any problems with PUP founder, billionaire federal MP Clive Palmer.

"I have a great deal of respect for Clive Palmer," Mr Judge told The Courier Mail on Wednesday.

"I have a great deal of respect for what he's trying to achieve in terms of improving democracy in Australia."

"My personal view is that it's important for concentration on the federal level at this point in time.

"The Palmer United Party plays an important role at a federal level."
