Crews fight to control fire in central Qld

Fire crews are fighting to contain a fire raging near a central Queensland community still recovering from Cyclone Marcia.

Seven fire crews and aerial support are battling the blaze near Oakey Creek, north of Byfield, and are using bulldozers to strengthen containment lines.

The QFES had earlier called on residents to enact their emergency bushfire plans and relocate, but that warning has since been downgraded.

"Residents are asked to monitor the situation in their area and phone Triple Zero (000) if they feel their property comes under threat," the QFES said in a statement.

"There is no threat to homes at this time."

The fire earlier moved in the direction of Byfield, north of Yeppoon, before moving in a south-south westerly direction towards Oakey Creek.
