Labor MPs may wait months for High Court

Two federal Labor politicians ensnared in the citizenship fiasco may have to wait months before the High Court determines whether they can stay in parliament.

Victorian MP David Feeney and ACT Senator Katy Gallagher are the latest MPs before the court, after it was revealed they may not have correctly renounced their UK citizenship.

Mr Feeney has been unable to provide documents confirming he had renounced any foreign citizenship in 2007, and Senator Gallagher argues she took all steps within her powers to renounce her UK ties.

Resolution in their cases may not come as quickly as it did with others, with the High Court in Brisbane hearing on Friday that evidence and experts were still being sought.

A full hearing into the matters may not be held until March and the court was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
