Two kids injured as tourist train hits car in Cairns

A tourist train carrying 170 people has hit a car in Cairns, injuring two children, their mother and an elderly man.

Paramedics say the family suffered only minor injuries, with all four taken to hospital for treatment and further assessment.

None of the passengers who were on the Kuranda Scenic Railway train were hurt.

"They've all been assessed and spoken to by paramedics and they're all in good health and good spirits," ambulance service spokesman James Andrews said on Wednesday.

Mr Andrews said multiple crews were sent to the scene, "given the potential gravity of 170 patients".

He said the family had a range of minor injuries.

The Kuranda Scenic Railway takes tourists on a picturesque train journey between Cairns and the hinterland town of Kuranda.
