Katters propose end to Stradbroke mining

Queensland's Katter Australian Party party MPs have proposed a plan to end sand mining on the world's second largest sand island in 2024.

Katter party MP Shane Knuth has introduced a bill to state parliament to phase out sand mining on North Stradbroke Island by 2024, which is a compromise between Labor's 2019 and the Liberal National Party's 2035 proposals.

"We're more or less saying to them we're sick of hearing what the LNP's proposing, we're sick of hearing of the fast-tracking to close it by the Labor Party - we're just coming up with a solution," Mr Knuth said.
