Katter tour Qld to talk about croc culling

Katter's Australian Party MPs will tour far north Queensland this week to talk about its plan to introduce crocodile culling legislation to the parliament.

Federal MP Bob Katter will be joined by state MPs Robbie Katter and Shane Knuth as they hold meetings at Mareeba, Innisfail and Port Douglas.

Mr Knuth said the tour of the region followed several crocodile attacks and last week's death of a family dog, which was taken from a property near Innisfail.

"Reports show seven beaches have been closed due to croc sightings in the past three months," he said in a statement on Monday.

"KAP will be drafting legislation that looks at culling, safari hunting, croc removal and egg collection initiatives."

Mr Knuth said far north Queenslanders were sick of "gunna dos" promises and instead needed direct action.

The body of 35-year-old Warren Hughes was pulled from waters north of Innisfail on March 20, two days after the spearfisher went missing.

Police confirmed he was fatally mauled by a four-metre crocodile, which was later caught and euthanised.

Teenager Lee De Paauw was lucky to escape with just two broken bones after he jumped into the Johnstone River at Innisfail that same weekend to impress a British backpacker.
