Ipswich council corruption crisis deepens

The Ipswich City Council crisis has deepened with Queensland's corruption watchdog laying further charges.

Two men previously charged by the Crime and Corruption Commission as part of its investigation into the council were on Friday accused of additional offences.

A 66-year-old Brassall man will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday on eight charges of fraud and one count of corruption, while a 61-year-old Eight Mile Plains man will appear in the same court on August 28 accused of a corruption offence.

Fifteen people who either worked for or were linked to the council have been charged with 86 corruption and related offences.

The state government will introduce to parliament in the coming weeks special legislation to sack the Ipswich council.

Sacking the council was the only option for the government, the CCC's head Alan MacSporran QC told a parliamentary hearing last month.

The CCC is expected to release its report into governance failures within the council next week.
