Industry demands more buses on Qld roads

Queensland children will end up being left behind at bus stops unless more services are added across the state, bus operators have warned.

The Queensland Bus Industry Council said overcrowding would continue, and has called on the state government to allocate more school buses.

Drivers are obliged by law not to overload the buses, and QBIC executive director David Tape said he couldn't guarantee every child would get a ride if overcrowding continues.

"What should a driver do if a child wants to board a bus that is clearly already ahead of its capacity?" he asked.

"The solution is simple, but until it happens the issue of overcrowding won't stop."
