Indian dinner will honour Qld bus driver

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says an annual reception for the state's Indian community will honour the life of bus driver Manmeet Sharma.

Ms Palaszczuk will host the dinner at state parliament on Tuesday evening, weeks after the 29-year-old was killed in shocking circumstances while stopping to pick up passengers in Moorooka.

The premier said the recent Diwali Festival of Lights - which celebrated "light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair" - had particular resonance after the incident.

"Tonight is an opportunity for the Indian community to come together here at Parliament House for us to thank them for their contribution, but also as a sign of respect to remember the life of Manmeet Sharma," she told state parliament.

Mr Sharma, also known as Manmeet Alisher, died when an incendiary device was thrown at him last month.

Anthony O'Donohue, 48, has been charged with his murder. O'Donohue had previously received mental health services on Brisbane's southside.
