Odour ends flying doctor flight

An odour in the cabin of a Royal Flying Doctor Service plane has caused the pilot to turn around soon after take-off.

The RFDS says the plane took off from Mount Isa in northwest Queensland on Wednesday night.

RFDS acting regional manager Lauren Jesberg says after the odour was detected the pilot flew the aircraft back to the mining city.

"The aircraft is currently being assessed by engineers and is expected to return to service shortly," Ms Jesberg told AAP.

Earlier state Health Minister Cameron Dick claimed the incident was being investigated by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

But CASA and the ATSB have told AAP they are not involved in the minor incident.
