Homeless woman accused of stabbing spree

A 39-year-old Brisbane woman has been remanded in custody after a stabbing spree which has left one man dead and four others injured.

Natascha Mielke faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday having been arrested following the series of knife attacks in the city's inner-west the previous evening.

Police allege she told three men at a Paddington hostel, "we are all going to die tonight" before stabbing them with a large knife.

Mielke then fatally stabbed another man outside the Pinjarra Lodge half-way house before moving on to Ashgrove and attacking a fifth man.

The court heard the accused was homeless, suffered mental health problems and needed psychiatric assessment.

She has been charged with one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder and committing acts to maim.

She will reappear via videolink on May 22.
