Hero surfers save man from drowning at Gold Coast beach

A quick-thinking group of surfers have pulled an unconscious man from the water at a Gold Coast beach.

Video obtained by 9NEWS showed the team of five as they rallied together to tow the surfer to shore at Currumbin Alley this morning.

“He was immediately pulled up onto his surfboard. He was unconscious, unresponsive,” Clint Peters from Queensland Ambulance said.

Mr Peters said the group attempted CPR on the man on the while still out in the surf.

He described the move as “inventive” and “very advantageous and brave” to the Gold Coast Bulletin.

It is believed the 58-year-old man may have hit is head before falling unconscious.

He remains in a stable condition at Gold Coast University Hospital.
