Gun-toting Qld cop's sentencing delayed

A Queensland police officer who pulled his gun on a speeding motorist will have to wait longer before learning his punishment.

Senior Constable Stephen Flanagan was to have been sentenced in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday after being found guilty in December of common assault and deprivation of liberty after a May 2015 incident outside Longreach.

But his sentencing was adjourned to a future date.

Flanagan was captured on video screaming "f***ing pull over now, c***" at motorist Lee Povey after catching the man speeding in a Holden ute.

With his gun drawn, Flanagan was also shown threatening to "put a f***ing hole in him" at Mr Povey.

Brisbane Magistrate Paul Kluck ruled in December Flanagan's belief that Mr Povey was not only driving a stolen vehicle but may have had a weapon was not reasonable.

Flanagan's lawyer, Stephen Zillman, drew attention to a psychiatric report that suggested Flanagan had post-traumatic stress disorder.

Mr Povey was given a speeding ticket for driving at about 125 km/h on a 110km/h road.
