Cars have been sent flying as a massive smash shook an undercover car park on the Gold Coast, trapping a 75-year-old man.

The force of the collision was so powerful it knocked over poker machines inside the Grand Hotel on Marine Parade at Southport.

CCTV shows a white Jeep suddenly surge forward before slamming into a silver car and hitting a gas main.

The Jeep then roars off and flips, trapping the elderly man inside.

A quick-thinking employee switched off the gas supply after the main was ruptured.

The elderly man was pulled from the wreck before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

A third vehicle was also wiped out in the accident and was sent careering into the wall of a gaming room, knocking over a poker machine.

The man’s long-time friends and neighbours were in the other car but escaped with no injuries.

“I’ve only got a cut, I got a thing there but otherwise I’m fine,” Laurie Pollock told 9NEWS.

Investigators believe the elderly gentleman may have suffered from a medical condition and slammed the accelerator by mistake.

“There is a lot of potential for this incident to have caused a lot of damage to people or property but thankfully today it's just the vehicles that were damaged,” Justine Payne from the Queensland Ambulance Service said.
