Govt to meet Morcombes over child charges

Education Minister Kate Jones will meet with Daniel Morcombe's parents following child sex charges being laid against Education Queensland's one-time head of child safety.

Brett Anthony O'Connor, a former Catholic brother, was arrested in March and accused of indecently assaulting two 12-year-old boys at schools in Sydney more than 25 years ago.

During his tenure, he had helped launch the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum.

The curriculum was developed alongside Bruce and Denise Morcombe in honour of their murdered son and aims to teach children about personal safety and awareness.

On Thursday, Ms Jones said she was "absolutely confident" the scheme was still up to scratch.

Nevertheless, she said she planned to meet with the Morcombes to discuss the allegations levelled against O'Connor.

"The premier and I will be meeting with the Morcombe family," she said.

"Obviously I feel for (them) having gone through another distressing situation."

"It's very distressing when any person in a position of responsibility gets charged with such offences."

O'Connor will be back in court in June.
