Govt's ice funding 'crap': Lambie

If Australia can afford to drop bombs on Syria then there's no excuse for not increasing funding to address the country's growing ice epidemic, Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie says.

Senator Lambie, whose son is battling an ice addiction, said the federal government clearly had its priorities all wrong.

"If you want to go and drop bombs that's your call, you go and do that, but if you can afford to do that, why can't we afford more rehabilitation for our kids?" she told AAP.

Senator Lambie said she had statistics showing ice usage in Australia had doubled in the past two years and nowhere near enough was being spent to address the problem.

"Government funding is crap," she said.

Senator Lambie, who spoke at an ice roundtable in Queensland parliament on Friday, said she had spent the past three days trying to get her son into rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, she is continuing to push for laws to give parents the legal right to put their ice-addicted children into rehab.

Senator Lambie was saddened to hear that a woman in Rockhampton had built a cage to house her ice-addicted son.

"That just goes to show the desperation out there at this point in time - it's just awful," she said.
