Gold Coast man injured in serious smash

A Gold Coast man has suffered serious head injuries after crashing into a parked car and a tree on Christmas Day.

Police say the 33-year-old man's vehicle left the road in Elanora on Thursday night before it collided with the other car and slammed into a tree.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

More than 50 people have been injured on Queensland roads so far during the 2014 Christmas Road Safety Campaign period, which runs from Tuesday December 23 to January 3, 2015.

That compares with 102 injuries during the same period last year.

Queensland has not recorded any fatalities during the period.

Police have performed more than 26000 random breath tests and caught 139 people drink driving.

Nearly 8000 people have been caught speeding and the most serious incident involved a motorist who was clocked at 155km/h in an 80km/h zone in Redland Bay, south east of Brisbane.
