Surfer drowns after being pulled from the water at Snapper Rocks, Coolongatta

A surfer has tragically drowned at a popular Gold Coast beach this morning.

Paramedics were called after a man got into difficulty in the water at Snapper Rocks, Coolongatta, just after 4.40am.

The 70-year-old man unconscious when he was pulled from the surf.

Ambulance crews desperately tried to revive the man but were unsuccessful.

The man's death is the second drowning this week in Queensland.

Dane Bracey died after becoming trapped in floodwaters north of Townsville on Sunday.

The teenager was swimming in Big Crystal Creek with friends when he was carried away by rapids caused by ex-tropical cyclone Owen.
