Four crocs seen in suburban Qld lake

Four crocodiles have been spotted at a suburban lake in far north Queensland, including one which basked in a resident's backyard.

The crocs range in size but the largest sighted in the lake at St Crispins Avenue, Port Douglas, is estimated to be between 3.5 and four metres long.

The sightings have prompted wildlife officers to urge members of the public to exercise extreme caution at the lake.

"Recent warning signs have been installed at all locations of the sightings and wildlife officers have consulted with local residents about the importance of being CrocWise," Northern Wildlife operations manager Michael Joyce said.

A trap will be deployed to capture a 2.5 metre saltie seen sunning itself on a grassy bank in a resident's backyard.
