Infamous conman Peter Foster is expected to be transferred to a Brisbane prison to begin an 18-month-prison sentence handed down a year ago.

The 52-year-old was arrested in dramatic scenes which saw police chase the barefoot conman into bushes at Byron Bay on Tuesday after 11 months on the run.

Later that day, he was convicted in a NSW court of assaulting police and resisting arrest after pleading guilty to both charges.

Foster has been taken to the Southport watch house and is expected to be transferred to Brisbane's Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre this morning to begin an 18-month-prison sentence handed down a year ago.

The jail term is for Foster's part in the sale of the bogus SensaSlim oral weight loss spray, which swindled about $6 million from 90 investors.
