Five treated for heat in FNQ marathon

Five people are being treated for heat related illnesses at a Port Douglas marathon event.

Temperatures neared 30 degrees at 9am on Sunday as runners more than 1,700 runners put their fitness to the test in the annual Tropical Journeys Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival.

The event has a number of different courses including a 74km ultra marathon, a 42.2km marathon and 21.1km half marathon.
