Five people have been charged with animal cruelty offences over the alleged torture and death of a wallaby in north Queensland last year.

Police say a complaint was made in November that a man punched the injured wallaby and stomped on its head in Charters Towers while another man filmed it and posted the footage to snapchat.

Townsville police raided a number of addresses and seized mobile phones, dash cam footage, weapons and clothing.

Three men, aged 19 and two aged 17, and two boys, aged 15 and 16, have been charged with a total of 48 offences, including 12 counts of animal cruelty.

The three men are due to face Townsville Magistrates Court on May 18.
