North Qld bushfire downgraded

Fire crews are making headway as they continue to battle a north Queensland bushfire that reportedly destroyed a home.

Emergency services had issued a watch and act alert on Friday afternoon as the fast-moving fire burned north in Bluewater, north of Townsville.

That has now been revised down to an advice warning, with residents in the area urged to take precautions such as patrolling their properties for embers and bringing pets indoors.

A total of 21 crews have worked to put out the fire since it broke out about 10am.

Seventeen remain on scene, including water bombing craft assisting in the bid to extinguish the blaze.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman was unable to confirm reports a house that caught alight had been totally lost.

However properties had been affected by the fire, she said.

Earlier, paramedics had also been called to treat one man for smoke inhalation and another who fell off a quad bike near the fire.
