Fire rips through unit in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley

A unit in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley has caught fire this morning, with three occupants making a narrow escape.

The fire broke out just after 7am and three women inside the unit, who live in a share house arrangement, fled as soon as they heard an alarm go off.

Fire crews rushed in to tackle the blaze, at the Bells Square apartment building on Anderson St, and brought the situation under control.

There were fears it could spread to nearby apartments and the entire building was evacuated.

It is still too early to know what caused the blaze.
