Fire guts four classrooms at Qld school

A fire that broke out in a Queensland primary school has caused significant damage to four classrooms.

Police are now set to probe the cause of the blaze which began around 11am on Wednesday at Mabel Park State School in Slacks Creek, forcing students and staff to evacuate.

Teachers attempted to put out the blaze themselves, fire officer Michael Chamberlain said.

"But the fire was too intense for them," he told ABC radio.

In addition to the structural damage, five children were treated afterwards for smoke inhalation.

But police said there were no reported injuries and all people in the building were accounted for.
