Fed budget set to dominate Qld parliament

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has issued a challenge to the federal government to fund Brisbane's Cross River Rail project, as state parliament prepares to sit during federal budget week.

The Labor state government will introduce two bills this week - one to streamline non-state schools applying for state funding, and another to implement changes recommended in the review of the gasfields commission.

However much of the sitting week will be dealing with the fallout from the federal budget, with the ongoing stoush over the Cross River Rail expected to dominate.

The Palaszczuk government has committed $850 million to the project, and wants the Turnbull government to at least match that amount to start work by the end of this year.

The premier on Monday was again talking tough on funding.

"I want to see some good infrastructure projects for Queensland. I'm hoping Macolm Turnbull delivers that tomorrow night," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"If not, he'll be hearing from me."

Changes to the state's parole board and amendments to ensure safety around water supply dams are expected to be debated on Tuesday.

It will also be the last parliamentary week for the premier's long-time chief of staff Angela MacDonagh, who has publicly announced she will finish up on Friday.

Her departure comes a week after the appointment of Michael Stephenson, a senior staffer to former UK prime minister Tony Blair, as Ms Palaszczuk's deputy chief-of-staff.
