Fears G20 will impact Qld diggers' appeal

Queenslanders are being urged to give generously in support of returned servicemen this Remembrance Day amid fears the G20 summit will drive donations down.

RSL Queensland predicts reduced numbers at Brisbane's annual November 11 service due to fewer people in the CBD ahead of the G20.

RSL Queensland chairman Terry Meehan says numbers could also be affected by the fact the city's Shrine of Remembrance is under renovation and won't be part of this year's ceremony.

He urged people to buy a symbolic red poppy or donate to the RSL's annual appeal, adding 2014 marked the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I.

"This is all the more reason we should be standing shoulder to shoulder to remember the fallen and show our support for those who have served in wars past and present," Mr Meehan said in a statement.

The Remembrance Day service in Brisbane's ANZAC Square begins at 10.35am (AEST) Tuesday.
