Famous Yatala pie shop reopens after flood

The Gold Coast's iconic pie shop has reopened, to the relief of southeast Queenslanders, after it was flooded about a week ago.

The highway landmark Famous Yatala Pies started baking again on Sunday after being lent equipment and an army of volunteers helped with the clean-up.

Plumber Jim Monger was the first to use the drive-through on Monday morning and said the pies were "still perfect".

Stopping at the shop for a pie is part of his morning ritual and Mr Monger's thrilled they are back in business.

"I've been eating there for 55 years," Mr Monger told AAP.

Yatala Pies has also added a new pie, The Cyclone, to its menu.

Based on the traditional steak and bacon pie, but layered with cheese and topped with pineapple, $1 from every Cyclone sold will go to the Australian Disaster Relief.
