Teen charged over chemicals discovery

A teenager has been charged after police discovered chemicals used to make explosives in a house in Brisbane's northern outskirts.

Officers unearthed the materials at a home in Burpengary around 8am on Wednesday during an unrelated search.

They put the house into lockdown and declared an emergency situation, which is still in place.

A 19-year-old Elimbah man is now facing two counts each of possessing unauthorised and prohibited explosives and placing dangerous goods on a vehicle.

He will front Caboolture Magistrates Courts on October 15.

Controlled detonations are expected to be carried out on Thursday, a police spokesman said.

There was no threat to surrounding homes, she said.
