Exotic snakes, drugs nabbed in Qld raid

Detectives had to call in a snake handler after they uncovered a rather unusual stash during a raid at a Gold Coast home.

Four snakes - two exotic American corn snakes and two native spotted pythons - were found at the Helensvale property along with cash and $18,0000 worth of methylamphetamine on Monday night, Queensland police say.

"It's not every day that they uncover exotic animals," a police statement said.

A snake handler was called in to remove the reptiles, which have been handed over to rangers from the Department of National Parks.

The corn snakes are considered pests, while the pythons are protected.

A 38-year-old man has been charged with four offences in relation to his pets, including keeping a declared pest, as well as eight drug charges.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
