A Queensland bus driver has been fired after saving a young passenger from an alleged violent attack.

But three days later he got a call from his boss at Transdev, who told him he was being fired.

They told him by stepping in, he committed misconduct.

Robert said his first instinct was to help by shouting "enough" at the teenager.

"When I looked down the bus the guy behind me was now down on the floor being set upon by the three other youths," Robert said.

"Two of them stopped and the third one I had to just grab by the shoulders and pull off and that was it," he said.

"He wasn't even struggling, I think he wanted to be stopped."

Robert said he just had to stop it.

"I just want my job back."

A police officer said he believed public perception would be very positive of Robert's actions.

"I strongly believe had Robert not intervened the victim may have received far worse injuries and may have even resulted in grievous bodily harm or death," the officer said.

9News approached Travsdev for comment but it said it did not comment on individual cases.

The Transport Workers Union is working with Robert to file an unfair dismissal claim to help him get his job back.
