Former NRL player Anthony Watts still intends to fight an assault charge after his lawyer received medical records and photos relating to an alleged incident at a wedding in August.

Watts didn't appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday as his case was called, and key documents in the matter were handed over by the prosecution.

The court is still waiting for a statement from the plaintiff in the case, which was due a fortnight ago.

Police allege the 30-year-old kneed and kicked a bridesmaid's husband at a wedding on the Gold Coast, and have charged him with assault occasioning bodily harm.

Watts' case has been adjourned until next Thursday.
