Ex-MP Driscoll in jail ahead of sentence

Disgraced former Queensland MP Scott Driscoll is in custody ahead of his sentencing on Friday over 15 fraud-related offences.

Driscoll appeared in the Brisbane District Court on Monday, when it was revealed the levels of fraudulent misconduct he went to in soliciting hundreds-of-thousands of dollars in secret commissions from supermarkets in 2011 and 2012.

Three days before he was due to go to trial in November, Driscoll pleaded guilty to 15 fraud-related charges during his term as the Member for Redcliffe.

Crown prosecutor Sarah Farnden said he should be jailed for six years during sentence submissions on Monday afternoon.

But his defence barrister, Kylie Hillard, has asked Judge Deborah Richards to impose a four-and-a-half-year sentence and suspend it after six or 12 months due to Driscoll's serious mental and physical health issues.
